>> Wendy:And I'm Wendy.
>> Bridget:And this is Flickin Beans. No coffee. Right on.
>> Wendy:Ah, it's beer today.
>> Bridget:Yeah, we got some blue moons.
>> Wendy:I haven't had a blue moon in a minute.
>> Bridget:I haven't either.
>> Wendy:I go through phases where I drink it a lot. Like, I like to order it when I'm out. I like to get the orange.
>> Bridget:Yeah.
>> Wendy:But I don't usually buy it, like, for at home, but I do like it.
>> Bridget:When I got to Kwik Trip, I was just gonna get us a couple tab. They only have those giant ones, like the silos. Yes. Is that what it's called?
>> Wendy:That's what those are called. The, like, extra large.
>> Bridget:I was like, no, I won't be here that long. That'll be hard to finish. And I'll want to stick it in my cup holder on the way home.
>> Wendy:That's what she said. I don't know,
>> Bridget:you're right. And also, I can barely get my hand around it.
>> Wendy:That almost came out my nose. Yeah. I'm just continuing my bender from this weekend. I had my 20 year college reunion. It wasn't like an official reunion through the school. We just decided to get together, like my friend group. I planned a little getaway for us and a lot of. There was a lot of hurdles, but it ended up being good.
>> Bridget:Okay.
>> Wendy:The weather ended up cooperating for us. We had a pretty good turnout and it was fun. We went to the water park. Ooh, I'm glad I went once, but I think I'm done with water parks.
>> Bridget:Oh, God. Why did you. Did you go down the slide and get the wedgie?
>> Wendy:Yeah. I mean, not bad, but I went down one slide and it was kind of scary, actually. I was like, oh. And then the way that it dumps you out at the end and, like, dunks you. I just forgot what all that felt like. And it feels different at 40 then. It does. I don't remember the last time I did that, but it was fun. Did the wave pool. They have a nice little lazy river, so it was good. Got sunburned, you know.
>> Bridget:Oh, yeah. You have to get sunburned.
>> Wendy:Yeah. But it was just. It was more just the crowd. It was packed. It was a Saturday. It was hot out. Everybody and their kids were there. Lots of little kids running around and getting in my way. Well.
>> Bridget:Cause they're on summer break. Yeah. Kids.
>> Wendy:All my friends had their kids with them, too. So they were out running around the water park and it was fun. Yeah.
>> Bridget:Well, speaking of wedgies and Water parks, actually. In a lake. I got an enema water skiing.
>> Wendy:Ooh.
>> Bridget:Oh, God. Yeah.
>> Wendy:Yeah.
>> Bridget:And they were, like, trying to get me to stand up again because I had wiped out, but I just. I was like, not sure.
>> Wendy:Is this becoming a theme?
>> Bridget:It feels like it. You just reminded me of that.
>> Wendy:Speaking of themes, our movie this week, the Cleanse 2016, currently streaming on Amazon prime. And it stars Johnny Galecki. He is of Roseanne and Big Bang Theory fame. You would recognize him, probably. And it's all very, very heavily themed.
>> Bridget:Yes. He plays Paul and he's a sad sack. Gets lured into I hate cults. What the f***? It's cult. It's weird.
>> Wendy:It is definitely a cult. And he gets pulled into it through basically a late night infomercial.
>> Bridget:Yeah.
>> Wendy:Which. Who hasn't been victimized by a late night infomercial? I don't know. I don't think I've ever actually called or bought anything, but, like, it has put ideas in my head of things to buy.
>> Bridget:There was this thing that went viral on Home Shop Shopping Network where they were selling a shirt, and the lady who called in was an older lady. And she said, I just took the glitter off of this part of the shirt and used them for pasties. And the co host literally busted a gut. She ran to the other side of the room and, like, curled up on the couch just, like, convulsing. Oh, it was so funny. And I mean, you could tell it was an old lady.
>> Wendy:That's like the old clip from Ellen with the lady that used to call in and she was telling a story and said, well, I want to preface this with I love Jesus, but I drink a little and then proceeds to go into. I don't even remember what the story is.
>> Bridget:That is amazing.
>> Wendy:But that's like a thing that we say in my family, like, before, we're gonna tell a drunken story.
>> Bridget:Oh, God.
>> Wendy:We're like, I love Jesus, but I drink a little.
>> Bridget:Oh, my God. I'm gonna use it. I'm gonna use it. This reminded me of, like, an ayahuasca trip.
>> Wendy:Sure.
>> Bridget:Yeah. In that way, the group was supposed to, you know what, like, bring calm and. And healing into your life by getting all your negative energy out there.
>> Wendy:Yes.
>> Bridget:And it was super weird because they presented everybody, all the guests there. There were two couples, the owners of the retreat.
>> Wendy:There was a couple, the owners of the retreat. And then Paul, Johnny Galecki's character. And then. Was it Maggie?
>> Bridget:Well, I guess I was calling him a couple. Yeah.
>> Wendy:They come as individuals, but they kind of couple up.
>> Bridget:So they present them with the process, which is we've crafted these four drinks for. They were in like mason jars.
>> Wendy:Yeah.
>> Bridget:And they did not look good.
>> Wendy:No. They looked like really gross home presto juices. Yeah.
>> Bridget:Or here and earth. Yeah. All this stuff.
>> Wendy:Everybody had a different color for some
>> Bridget:reason because they were for them personally and you weren't supposed to drink anyone else's. And they had to be consumed within 24 hours and don't not consume them.
>> Wendy:Yeah. That was a bad one.
>> Bridget:Bad after the first drink, isn't it? When they just hurl.
>> Wendy:Yeah. I'm not sure how many drinks in, but they all start hurling oh so much. I never made the connection to Ayahuasca, but you're absolutely right because I mean, I've never done it, but I've heard you start coming out of both ends, just getting rid of evil.
>> Bridget:Yeah. But you also, you confront your demons and the things that are holding you back and you supposedly come out of it with a whole new perspective. Possibly healed of all your negativity. Yeah.
>> Wendy:I've heard lots of anecdotal stories about being cured from like addiction, mental illness, anxiety, all these things. Because it made you confront what. Whatever was the root core of your problem. And this is kind of what they're doing here too.
>> Bridget:Like the natives finding your spirit animal on a vision quest.
>> Wendy:Vision quest, sure.
>> Bridget:Yeah. That's kind of the first thing that I thought of is this is like that as far as taxing on your body and your mind. After Paul vomits, something crawls out of the sink.
>> Wendy:Yeah.
>> Bridget:Crawls out.
>> Wendy:It like bursts out of the pipe. It's pretty gross.
>> Bridget:Exactly. Here's the thing too. It represents all of their. They're purged. They've purged those emotions. Everything that's bad, but it's cute. And they're meant to nurture it and then basically kill it.
>> Wendy:Yeah.
>> Bridget:That's just like how we hold on to our pain.
>> Wendy:Exactly.
>> Bridget:It's comforting.
>> Wendy:Yeah. We become used to it. We wouldn't hold onto it if there wasn't some kind of advantage to it as well.
>> Bridget:Right.
>> Wendy:You maybe are protecting yourself from something if you hold onto this could just be that you're familiar. It's familiar to you. But yeah. Making this little creature kind of cute makes you want to hold onto it. It also grows very fast. And so you get a little bit of a. I raised this feeling.
>> Bridget:Right. Exactly what you. Water grows. So we all do this if we perseverate. There's a $2 word on our negativity. It just builds and builds and builds. And even though they're purging, they're not actually dealing. Processing their tr.
>> Wendy:Drama, right?
>> Bridget:Not yet, no. It's a process. Okay. We have to describe the thing.
>> Wendy:They look kind of like worms with arms. I got a little bit of a like gremlins vibe from them. I think that might just be like, don't. I was afraid that they were gonna feed it or get it wet and it was gonna explode. Everybody's looks a little bit different too, and acts a little bit different. Like their person, I'm assuming, to be representative of whatever the bad thing is that they are vomiting up. Maggie's is very scared of everything. Won't come to her. Won't let her comfort her, for example. And hers is, like, more feminine. Like it's a girl.
>> Bridget:So funny. And Paul and Maggie's creatures start to bond with one another, which is symbolic of Maggie and Paul starting to bond.
>> Wendy:Trauma bond.
>> Bridget:Yeah. And you have to recognize each other's baggage.
>> Wendy:And they actually start merging towards the end and getting bigger because they're merging. Yes. Themes. Yeah.
>> Bridget:I mean, it's kind of beautiful. Kind of gross.
>> Wendy:Yeah.
>> Bridget:Yeah.
>> Wendy:It was another fly moment.
>> Bridget:It. Oh, it reminded me of the substance too.
>> Wendy:Yeah.
>> Bridget:The substance.
>> Wendy:This movie does have a lot of similarities to that as well. The substance with the demi.
>> Bridget:More the couple. Eric and Laurie. And Laurie didn't finish hers.
>> Wendy:Yeah.
>> Bridget:So she was unable to nurture her creature.
>> Wendy:Was unable to purge it. She couldn't get rid of it and it killed.
>> Bridget:She was so sad looking. She was all dead and pale.
>> Wendy:Yeah.
>> Bridget:Overly pale. She was Asian, like a geisha. That was so. Oh, no.
>> Wendy:Cringe. Okay. Yeah, I know. Well, yeah. The couple that's on the retreat with them are obviously having issues. I think they hint that the guy might be an alcoholic and that she brought them there because she wants to fix his alcoholism. But they obviously both have their own issues. And she just cannot drink. The last jar. Can't make it go down.
>> Bridget:Yeah. What? Could you blend it like a smoothie?
>> Wendy:Yeah. Can you sweeten it up a little bit? Can you.
>> Bridget:Can you take it back to the chef and say, could you sweeten this up a little bit, please? I don't care for it.
>> Wendy:Hers was green and everybody else's was other colors. So maybe she had a little extra celery. Wasn't so weird.
>> Bridget:What was the deal with the older man? And his creature was so huge.
>> Wendy:Yeah. He had been through the program several times. He just Couldn't bring himself to kill it.
>> Bridget:Right. But it kills him. Yeah. Your anger and that kind of thing. If you don't work through it, it at least metaphorically kills you.
>> Wendy:Yeah. It eats you up.
>> Bridget:Oh, how scary. I don't want that s*** in my house. Oh, my God.
>> Wendy:Yeah. I do get the urge to purge.
>> Bridget:Oh, snap. Oh, I love it. So I looked up the definition between metaphor and allegory.
>> Wendy:Okay.
>> Bridget:Okay. So metaphor is a thing. Like, it could be words within one sentence. Or in this case, that creature is a metaphor for. Do you know this already?
>> Wendy:No, I should, but I don't.
>> Bridget:It's a metaphor for that pain that it's in a physical form. So that's a metaphor. But the allegory is the whole tale.
>> Wendy:Okay.
>> Bridget:In that it's. All of. It's a metaphor for something bigger that, you know, the whole story needs to tell.
>> Wendy:Yeah. Okay. Yeah, yeah. So the creature is the actual metaphor and the allegory is the story.
>> Bridget:Yeah.
>> Wendy:Okay. Yeah, that makes sense.
>> Bridget:Yeah. I mean, and the creatures melding together as a metaphor for those two. But then they gotta, like, strangle it.
>> Wendy:Yeah. That's not how I would have picked to kill it. I probably would have kept going with the rock.
>> Bridget:Yeah.
>> Wendy:She starts beating it with a rock, and it doesn't. I don't know if it doesn't work. But then he strangles it. And I'm like, where is its windpipe, though?
>> Bridget:Because what movies have we seen where they have either bashed something in with or even me, myself and Irene? When he shoots the cow three times and still lives. Death of a unicorn.
>> Wendy:Death of a unicorn.
>> Bridget:Oh, my God. A lot.
>> Wendy:It's harder to kill things than you think, maybe.
>> Bridget:And the voices. Oh, yeah, that animal, he happens to have a big butcher knife. Cool. Cool. Glad I'm on a date with you.
>> Wendy:I'm totally fascinated by the idea of cults. I think a lot of us are, because there's so many shows about them.
>> Bridget:Joel should start. That's what she said. I don't know.
>> Wendy:What's their message?
>> Bridget:Their message is all dirty jokes all the time. We're teenage boys.
>> Wendy:The worst cults. There are worse.
>> Bridget:Yeah. Oh, yeah.
>> Wendy:Yeah.
>> Bridget:I at least want to be on a. Like, a humor cult.
>> Wendy:Yeah.
>> Bridget:A comedy cult.
>> Wendy:The cult of comedy.
>> Bridget:It'll be like, the cult leader will, like, tell everyone that they're super funny.
>> Wendy:Yeah. That's how we would get sucked in. Yeah.
>> Bridget:And then the whole group would just like, laugh heartily at your bad jokes. Dad jokes. Whatever.
>> Wendy:Oh, I Gotta watch out for that. That's how they're gonna get me.
>> Bridget:I know it.
>> Wendy:Everyone thinks that they would not get sucked into a cult, but the problem is this, that it's very easy, I think.
>> Bridget:No, it's grooming.
>> Wendy:Yeah. Because. Because they do things like that. Like they tell you you're funny, or they. They tell you you're smart, or they show you a way that you can better your life. It's almost always somebody that's very vulnerable.
>> Bridget:They come close to you and want to be your friend. And.
>> Wendy:Yeah, they make you feel good. And then you don't want to leave because you've formed all these community connections. Have you seen Mother God? That's recently one that I just watched.
>> Bridget:Yes.
>> Wendy:I feel like that's almost a cult I could get sucked into. Except I would never believe that somebody was God on Earth.
>> Bridget:I would never believe that colloidal silver is something you should put in your body. Oh, that's crazy.
>> Wendy:She turned completely blue. Anybody go watch it? But she thinks she's God, and she thinks that kaleidosilver is going to. And alcohol, by the way, are going to help her heal the planet, but really she just turns blue and dies. But the craziest part of that one was that everybody's, like, still in the cult, even though they killed her.
>> Bridget:Also that they kept her laying there after she died. Let's put a bunch of flowers around her so she don't stink. That is so gross.
>> Wendy:Yeah, that was. That was a recent one I watched, so it's still fresh in my brain.
>> Bridget:Oh, so good. I mean. Yeah, you can't look away.
>> Wendy:No, I just like the way that I watch True Crime. I think, like, if I watch all these things, that I'm somehow gonna prevent myself from getting murdered or joining a cult, but I don't think that it really helps.
>> Bridget:Oh, man. No. I'm still terrified of getting murdered. It crosses my mind at least once a day. Oh, man. It would be random, though. I don't think anybody hates me that much.
>> Wendy:I felt a little unsatisfied by the ending.
>> Bridget:Yeah, it leaves you hanging.
>> Wendy:I kind of wish we would have got to see whether this program worked. Like, because we own. The only people that we know that have gone through the program successfully are the guy who started it, Ken Roberts, I think is his name. And then the. The runner. I don't remember her name. The woman we don't know. Like, they say it's brought them peace or whatever, but has it?
>> Bridget:No, they. They still have issues. Yeah, yeah.
>> Wendy:And they just end the movie right after they kill off their creature. And I kind of would have liked to see some more of that.
>> Bridget:Off into the sunset.
>> Wendy:Yeah.
>> Bridget:Would you have liked to see more of that creature with the. When it melded together in the back seat as they were driving?
>> Wendy:It could have been interesting to let it go on longer and see how many things. How much it ruined their life. But I think it was close to killing them at that point. It was already the second bigger than them and biting them and.
>> Bridget:No, thank you.
>> Wendy:I'm always gonna be looking for something in my toilet now and I throw up.
>> Bridget:Oh, yeah? Yeah.
>> Wendy:Like, was that. Was that the purge that got my creature out?
>> Bridget:You hope you don't get that stomach bug.
>> Wendy:I know. I haven't eaten lettuce since I remember. I know. It's a parasite.
>> Bridget:Norosporo Sagittarius.
>> Wendy:I don't. Sagittarius. Aquarius. Yeah. Yeah, I saw that. There is now a contamination in a lot of garlic. No, not like. Not like fresh garlic, but the actual powder. And I'm like, powdered, you know, ground up garlic, spice.
>> Bridget:I'm like, I don't buy that.
>> Wendy:I don't know. It wouldn't be able to live very long in it. I wouldn't.
>> Bridget:Yeah. What else you got?
>> Wendy:Not much. I mean, it's kind of a short movie and not that much happens beyond what we've explained.
>> Bridget:Did you like it?
>> Wendy:Yeah, I did. It's not like in my top list of movies by any stretch of the imagination, but it's memorable.
>> Bridget:Yeah.
>> Wendy:And I do think, like, the themes are kind of interesting to think about. Oh, yeah.
>> Bridget:To think about, like, I liked it for that reason.
>> Wendy:A physical manifestation of your issues and maybe self reflection on how maybe you could let go of some of that stuff.
>> Bridget:Exactly. I would never say, oh, my God, you have to see this movie. No, no. But I enjoyed it for what it was.
>> Wendy:Yeah.
>> Bridget:A movie. The guy from Roseanne. What's his name again?
>> Wendy:Johnny Galecki.
>> Bridget:I. He's not my favorite.
>> Wendy:Me either. Really? No.
>> Bridget:I mean, I didn't really like him in Rosanna. And I don't really watch Big Bang.
>> Wendy:I caught a little bit of it.
>> Bridget:Only one on the cast. That annoys me.
>> Wendy:Really? Yes. I'm. I don't really like that show at all. And don't come for me, you guys. But it's always on tv, so.
>> Bridget:Always.
>> Wendy:Not that I. But like, I was in the hotel room this weekend and it was on multiple channels when I was flipping through. I watched it For a few minutes, and I'm like, I just don't think this is funny. No, but people say that about Friends, too, and I love that show. No, it's not.
>> Bridget:That is a wrong opinion.
>> Wendy:There's, like, a series of videos I saw one time that on YouTube, I think was Big Bang Theory without the laugh track.
>> Bridget:Oh.
>> Wendy:And it's real bad if they're not telling you when to laugh. You know,
>> Bridget:that's. That sounds interesting.
>> Wendy:Yeah. It's one of those shows where I know where the joke is coming and I don't know. Every single time out like, that kind of surprised me a little bit.
>> Bridget:You know what? I got way into the Jennette McCurdy since I'd been reading her book.
>> Wendy:Yeah.
>> Bridget:I got way into watching oh, icarly. I got obsessed with icarly, and I just binged it. I loved it.
>> Wendy:Yeah, I've heard it's good. I've never watched it.
>> Bridget:It's neat while I'm reading Jeanette McCurdy's book to look at her at that age and to know what was going on.
>> Wendy:Yeah.
>> Bridget:And it's like, oh, my God, she was 13. Do you know that her mother showered her till she was 16 and checked all her parts for any lumps and bumps? Yeah. And she totally disassociated.
>> Wendy:Yeah.
>> Bridget:It's crazy. Like, her mom would be like, you don't know how to shampoo and condition your hair. And sometimes her brother would be in there with her.
>> Wendy:Yeah.
>> Bridget:Mom was wildly something. Anyway, talking about messed up people.
>> Wendy:She needs to take some of the. She needs to do the cleanse.
>> Bridget:I think she did it when she wrote that book.
>> Wendy:Oh, sure.
>> Bridget:Yeah. And I've heard her other books are kind of sexy.
>> Wendy:Okay.
>> Bridget:Interesting. Once you purge that, you can go on a more positive topic.
>> Wendy:Yeah. Good for her.
>> Bridget:All right. Anything else?
>> Wendy:I don't think so.
>> Bridget:Did we do it?
>> Wendy:I think we did it. We flicked some beans.
